چکیده
Acarbose was administered at a dose of 300 mg/day fbr S weeks to nine healthy volunteers (Table 1). Volunteers were doctors, nurses and laboratory technicians in Keio University Hospital. All were requested not to change their dietary habits and not to drink much alcohol. Blood was collected serially after 12 hours of fasting. Very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) was separated ultracentrifugally by the method of Havel et aL (5). High density lipoprotein (HDL) was separated by the heparin-manganese precipitation method (16). Cholesterol and triglyceride were measured with an autoanalyser and an acetylacetone

Acarbose improves fibrinolytic activity in patients with impaired glucose tolerance.
Acarbose has been shown to ameliorate insulinemia, suggesting that it may exert favorable effects on the impaired fibrinolytic state in prediabetic patients. We therefore conducted a randomized controlled study to examine the effects of acarbose on fibrinolysis in patients with impaired glucose tolerance (IGT). The participants were randomized to receive (n = 20) or not (control, n = 20) 100 mg...

Background and Objective: Although patients with uncontrolled type 2 Diabetes mellitus(DM) despite conventional treatment with oral hypoglycemic agents eventually require insulin to achieve glycemic control, most of them reject use of insulin. To evaluate the efficacy of adding acarbose to full doses of conventional oral hypoglycemic agents on the metabolic control of the patients this study wa...
متن کاملLong-term treatment in diabetics with acarbose, a glucosidase inhibitor: efficacy, tolerability and effect on GI hormones.
12 months therapy with acarbose in 143 type I and type II patients markedly improved the metabolic control, assessed by fasting and postprandial blood glucose determination. During 5 year acarbose treatment GIP levels were decreased and enteroglucagon levels were elevated. After withdrawal of the drug for one week GIP levels increased and enteroglucagon concentrations fell. Thus, GI-hormone cha...
متن کاملEffects of changeover from voglibose to acarbose on postprandial triglycerides in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients.
INTRODUCTION In this study, we examined the effects of the alpha-glucosidase inhibitors acarbose and voglibose on postprandial plasma glucose and serum triglyceride levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. METHODS Twenty-one Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes were enrolled in this study. Subjects had been treated with voglibose for at least 3 months. They underwent a 400 kcal bal...

ev-Glucosidase is the general term for the hydrolases of a-glucoside, and a-glucosidase in the small intestine plays a physiologically important role for the digestion process of dietary carbohydrate. The inhibitors of or-glucosidase, in consequence, could retard the use of dietary carbohydrates to suppress postprandial hyperglycemia. or-Glucosidase inhibitors such as acarbose, miglitol, and vo...
